Tell us a bit about the new Rounds - what inspired them, how long have they been in the works, and what is the core intention for them?
We recently opened The Rounds which is our newest addition to the Escape Hospitality family. Our team here at Scribner’s worked closely with Post Company to design eleven 12-sided cabins and Apex Lodge. The Rounds are designed to provide a hospitality experience embedded with nature, comfort, and adventure. All cabins have Japanese soaking tubs, private decks, outdoor showers, reading nooks, gas
fireplaces, and an oculus to provide natural light and stargazing view. The Round Suites include a thoughtfully crafted 360-degree circular sunken sofa facing the view of the forest. The Apex Lodge is the Rounds’ communal building with a cozy lounge area perfect for working remotely or reading a book. Leigh Salem from Post Company shares that, “The Rounds are designed to provide a retreat from the world, in a space that purposefully allows nature to be the focus.”
Could you share a bit about the decorating/furnishing that went into the lodge, and the Rounds specifically? What vibe were you going for, and how did you go about achieving it?
Post Company did an amazing job sourcing unique pieces of art, furniture, and textiles from local artisans and makers for both the Lodge and Rounds. While designing the Rounds, the focus was to create a space that harmoniously blended elements of Japanese and Scandinavian design while showcasing the craftsmanship of local artisans and natural beauty of the environment. For the decorating and furnishing, we focused on simplicity, functionality, and natural materials. In line with Scandinavian design principles, we incorporated clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and a neutral color palette to create a sense of tranquility and serenity. We collaborated with local makers and designers including Brian Persico, Michael Robbins, Lillian Li, and Minna to create bespoke furniture, wall art, and textiles that add warmth, character, and authenticity to the space. Overall, the vibe we aimed for was one of understated luxury, where guests could feel a deep connection to nature, appreciate the beauty of handmade objects, and experience a sense of peace and relaxation in a thoughtfully curated environment.
What are a few of your favorite things + insider tips about Scribner’s Lodge? A favorite room, menu item, activity, etc?
There is a lot to love about Scribner’s! Personally, my favorite rooms are our Bungalow Rooms because they include stone and wooden beam design features that create a cozy feel and are unique to those rooms. Another favorite is our amazing beverage program at Prospect led by Roberto Boffi and cocktails crafted by Nima. I love trying his seasonal creations especially in the summer months utilizing
herbs from our garden.
